Nelson Tasman Hospice provides specialist palliative care services for people of all ages with life-limiting illnesses, supporting them, their whānau and carers, through illness, death, and bereavement. Did you know that Nelson Tasman Hospice requires $3.5 million dollars each year to provide palliative care to its patients? They care for 240 patients each month. Yes, I know that’s a lot patients and a lot of money! They rely heavily on community fundraising to meet that target. One of the ongoing fundraisers in the Nelson region is Dancing For A Cause where 10 local well known people in our community are matched up with 10 professional dancers and spend 6 months raising money and learning a dance routine which they then perform to a packed crowd at the Trafalgar Centre all in the name of raising as much money as they can for Nelson Tasman Hospice. Each contestant has a sponsor to support their efforts along the way. Our Managing Director Shane Drummond was nominated to take part in this year’s event but decided it was best he hand the baton to our General Manager Ben Brownie. Ben was one of the 10 locals who took part this year in (May 2023) and along with his dance partner came 2nd on the night. Ben’s sponsor was Russells Curtains & Blinds – Bill and Jenny Liddell, who are one of The Car Company’s most valued customers. Bill has bought a huge number of vehicles from us for both is company and for private use. We very much value Bill’s business and loyalty to The Car Company over the years. The fundraising team behind Ben also managed to raise just over $50k to add to the total amount raised collectively which this year was a whopping $440,000!! This was double the amount raised at the event two years ago. That’s truly awesome, we are so pleased at this result for Hospice, they need every cent to do what they do on a daily basis. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts all of our amazing supporters who donated their dollars and time during those 6 months leading up to the event and of course we say a big THANK YOU to Nelson Tasman Hospice for caring for our families, friends and loved ones in need. Thank you, Nelson Tasman Hospice, – we appreciate you all.
